About this quiz
There are 13 essential vitamins. Four dissolve in fat (A, D, E and K) and are stored in the body; the other nine, vitamin C and the eight B vitamins, dissolve in water.
- Vitamin A is called retinol because it produces the pigments in the retina of the eye.
- Vitamin D comes in two main forms: cholecalciferol (D3) and ergocalciferol (D2). Either counts here.
- Vitamin K's forms are phylloquinone (K1), menaquinone (K2) and menadione (K3).
- Vitamin B12 is unusual among water soluble vitamins: the liver can store it for years.

All were checked on 3 October 2026. Where a vitamin has several forms, each listed form is accepted, along with the short forms thiamin, cobalamin, calciferol and tocopherol.
