About this quiz

The periodic table orders the elements by atomic number, in rows called periods and columns called groups. The lanthanoids and actinoids sit in two rows below the main table.

  • The four most recently named elements, nihonium, moscovium, tennessine and oganesson, were approved in 2016.
  • Oganesson, element 118, completes the seventh period.
  • Hydrogen and helium are the only elements in the first period.
  • British and American spelling both count: aluminium or aluminum, caesium or cesium, sulfur or sulphur.
