About this quiz

SI prefixes multiply a unit by a power of ten, so a kilometre is 10³ metres and a nanosecond is 10⁻⁹ seconds. There are 24 of them, twelve for multiples and twelve for fractions.

  • The four newest prefixes, quetta, ronna, ronto and quecto, were added in 2022.
  • Symbols for the large prefixes from mega upwards are capital letters; kilo, hecto and deca are lower case.
  • Beyond 10³ and 10⁻³ the prefixes go up and down in steps of a thousand.

Note on the data. Names, symbols and factors follow the International Bureau of Weights and Measures table of SI prefixes, checked on 3 October 2026. The American spelling deka is accepted for deca.
