About this quiz
Parts of speech, or word classes, sort words by the job they do in a sentence. The main ones are nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, pronouns, prepositions, conjunctions, determiners and exclamations.
- Many words belong to more than one class: yellow can be a noun or an adjective.
- Words such as the and my are determiners, which come before a noun.
- Exclamations such as wow and ouch are also known as interjections.
