About this quiz

A square number is a whole number multiplied by itself. The first twenty run from 1 to 400.

  • Each square is the sum of consecutive odd numbers: 16 is 1 + 3 + 5 + 7.
  • A square number never ends in 2, 3, 7 or 8.
  • 13 squared is 169 and 14 squared is 196: the same digits in a different order.
  • 20 squared is 400, four times 10 squared.
