About this quiz

Names only, no portraits. 15 people have held both offices, and the six here are dealt from them.

  • The Neither box holds Chief Justices of the United States who were never president or vice president.
  • William Howard Taft was president and later Chief Justice, so he would belong under President only and is never dealt as a Chief Justice.
  • Each box shows how many names it is still owed.

Sources

  1. [1]National Archives. US Presidents in the Census Records.
  2. [2]The White House. Presidents.
  3. [3]United States Senate. Vice Presidents of the United States.
  4. [4]Supreme Court of the United States. Justices 1789 to Present.

Note on the data. Presidents, vice presidents and Chief Justices are read from the lists behind three Ribbia quizzes, each checked against official sources on or before 3 October 2026. A person is filed under Both when the same name is on the list of presidents and the list of vice presidents (Gerald Ford appears with his middle initial on one list and without it on the other, and is matched by hand). Six names are dealt to each box by a fixed seed.
