About this quiz
The right side of the heart pumps blood through the lungs, the pulmonary circuit; the left side pumps it round the rest of the body, the systemic circuit. Four valves keep it moving one way.
- The pulmonary arteries are the only arteries after birth that carry blood low in oxygen, and the pulmonary veins the only veins that carry blood rich in it.
- The mitral valve is also called the bicuspid valve: it has two cusps, where the tricuspid valve has three.
- The two venae cavae, superior and inferior, return blood from the body to the right atrium.
