About this quiz
6 games take turns, each with twelve states and eleven rounds. All 50 states are in play. Every figure is shown once its round is over.
- A round is only asked when the leader is clear: more than five percent ahead of the runner up for a size, and at least one ahead for a count.
- Areas are total area, land and water. Populations are estimates for 1 July 2025. Bordering states share a stretch of land or river border; a state that meets another only at a point or across water is not asked about its neighbours.
- Letters are counted without spaces, hyphens or apostrophes.
- A wrong pick still removes the true leader, so the next round is the same for everyone.

Note on the data. Every figure is read from Ribbia's shared state data: Census Bureau total areas and resident population estimates for 1 July 2025, admission dates from the Congressional Research Service table, the National Archives list of state capitals, and neighbours from the Census Bureau county adjacency file, all read on 3 October 2026. People per square kilometre is the population divided by the total area. The sets are dealt by a fixed seed and a test recomputes the answer of every round from the shared data.
