About this quiz
The 13 original states joined the Union one at a time as each ratified the Constitution. The first five did so within five weeks, between 7 December 1787 and 9 January 1788.
- The five decoys are the sixth to tenth states to ratify, so every button is a plausible answer.
- Three states ratified in December 1787 and two more in the first nine days of January 1788.
- There is no minefield here: a wrong click just costs one of your five.

Note on the data. The order of ratification follows Table 1 of the Congressional Research Service report on the admission of states, read on 3 October 2026. The board is the first ten states in that table.
