Scoring
Your best guess and everything below it
  • Name the smallest element and the whole table unlocks at once.
  • A smaller answer unlocks itself and everything ranked below it. Guess again to climb.
  • Press Enter to lock in a guess. A name that is not on the list costs nothing but time.
  • Pause whenever you like (Esc). The board hides while the clock is stopped.

Name the element with the lowest figure in each table. The ranking appears when you start, with its figures showing and its names hidden.

About this quiz

The lowest boiling points belong to the lightest gases. Among solids the alkali metals are the least dense, light enough to float on water, and several metals melt on a warm day or in the hand.

  • Boiling points are in kelvin: 77 K is 196 degrees below zero Celsius.
  • Three metals are less dense than water, which is 1 gram per cubic centimetre.
  • The metals round stops at bismuth, number 83, and leaves out the radioactive elements beyond it, whose figures are estimates.
