About this quiz

A deduction game on the Caldecott Medal list, 1938 to 2026. The criteria are worked out from the list itself, so every prompt has one answer and only one.

  • 54 of the 89 winners can be pinned down by their four criteria alone; each round deals 10 of them.
  • Numbers written as figures count as words, an ampersand does not, and a subtitle left off the title shown is not counted.
  • An illustrator's wins are counted on this list only.
  • A used title leaves the bank, so the last prompts can be worked out by elimination.
