- A place counts when a clearly visible piece of it is inside, or at least half of it is. There are no slivers to guess at.
- The small map in the corner shows where the rectangle sits. A name that is not in it costs nothing.

About this quiz
All 50 states are on the map. A state counts when a clearly visible piece of its land is inside the rectangle, or when at least half of it is.
- Rectangles with a doubtful sliver on the edge are never used, so there is nothing to guess about.
- The small map in the corner shows where the rectangle sits, without any borders.
- Editions are numbered from the fewest states to the most: this one has 10.
- Alaska and Hawaii are drawn as insets on this map, away from where they lie, so no snippet includes them.

Note on the data. The answers are computed from the map itself: a fine grid of points is laid over the rectangle and each point is tested against the shapes on the map. A place counts when its land covers at least a quarter of one percent of the rectangle, or when at least half of the place is inside. A test repeats the computation for every edition. The 50 states are those on the Census Bureau's state code list, leaving out the District of Columbia and the territories. The map is drawn from the Census Bureau's public domain cartographic boundary files, with Alaska and Hawaii moved and rescaled into the lower left corner.
