About this quiz

Winning twice is not the same as serving two terms. Theodore Roosevelt, Calvin Coolidge, Harry S. Truman and Lyndon B. Johnson each took over as vice president and then won only one election of their own.

  • Franklin D. Roosevelt won four elections, more than anyone else.
  • Grover Cleveland and Donald Trump won two elections that were not back to back.
  • John Quincy Adams won once, in 1824, when the House of Representatives decided the election.

Note on the data. Election winners are read from the National Archives' Electoral College results pages for every election from 1789 to 2024, checked on 3 October 2026. A president counts when he is the winner of two or more of those elections as president; elections won as a vice presidential candidate do not count.
