About this quiz
Ribbia counts 197 countries: the 193 members of the United Nations plus Vatican City, Palestine, Kosovo and Taiwan. Everything else on the board is something smaller, larger or older than a country.
- England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are the four parts of one country, the United Kingdom.
- Greenland, Bermuda, Guam and Puerto Rico are territories of other countries.
- Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, the Soviet Union and East Germany no longer exist.
- The board is shuffled for every game, so there is no pattern to learn.

Note on the data. The 197 countries are Ribbia's shared set: the 193 member states on the United Nations list, checked on 3 October 2026, plus Vatican City, Palestine, Kosovo and Taiwan. The code checks that none of the 60 other names is a country on the list or an accepted alternate name for one.
