- Pick a cell and type its city. Every cell you solve shows a new clue about other cells.
- Cells are named like chess squares: the letter is the column, the number is the row.
- Not sure yet? Add a name to a cell as a note. Notes are never checked and never cost a strike.
- Keyboard: Alt and an arrow key moves between cells, Enter answers, Shift and Enter adds a note.
- Pause whenever you like (Esc). The board hides while the clock is stopped.
Work out the city in every cell from the clues. The grid appears when you start.
About this quiz
Twenty three cities hosted the 30 Summer Games from Athens 1896 to Paris 2024. Each clue places a cell by when, how often and where its city hosted, and only one arrangement fits.
- Any of the 23 cities that hosted the Summer Games from 1896 to 2024 could be in a cell, and no answer appears twice.
- Athens, Paris, London, Los Angeles and Tokyo have hosted more than once; the other 18 cities hosted once.
- Tokyo 2020 counts as 2020, the year in its name.
- Future hosts are not counted: Los Angeles stands on 1932 and 1984.
