About this quiz

Morse code spells each letter with a pattern of short and long signals. A dash lasts as long as three dots, and the gap between letters is three dots long.

  • E has the shortest code of all, a single dot, and T is a single dash.
  • S is three dots and O is three dashes, which is why SOS is so easy to send.
  • The space between two words is equal to seven dots.

Sources

  1. [1]International Telecommunication Union. Recommendation ITU-R M.1677-1: International Morse code.

Note on the data. The code for every letter and the timing rules were checked against section 1.1.1 and section 2 of ITU-R Recommendation M.1677-1 on 3 October 2026. Each signal is drawn with a round dot and a long bar rather than typed punctuation.
