About this quiz

6 games take turns, each with twelve countries and eleven rounds. Ribbia counts 197 countries: the 193 members of the United Nations plus Vatican City, Palestine, Kosovo and Taiwan. Every figure is shown once its round is over.

  • A round is only asked when the leader is clear: more than five percent ahead of the runner up for a size, and at least one ahead for a count.
  • Areas are surface area for 2023 and populations are United Nations estimates for mid 2025. Coastlines, land borders and highest points are 2025 figures.
  • Letters are counted without spaces, hyphens or apostrophes.
  • A wrong pick still removes the true leader, so the next round is the same for everyone.

Note on the data. Every figure is read from Ribbia's shared country data: surface areas from Table 3 of the United Nations Demographic Yearbook 2023 (Sudan from the World Bank), mid 2025 populations from the United Nations Statistical Yearbook table and capitals from the US Department of State list, all read on 3 October 2026. People per square kilometre is the population divided by the area. Land borders, land boundary lengths, coastlines and highest points are those of the CIA World Factbook in its last (2025) edition, read on 3 October 2026 from the archived copies of the agency's own field pages, parsed by script and checked to be symmetric. A border through a dependency (French Guiana, Gibraltar, Greenland, Ceuta and Melilla) or one that depends on a disputed status (Kosovo, Palestine, Western Sahara, the Golan Heights) is on a doubtful list and is never asked. The sets are dealt by a fixed seed and a test recomputes the answer of every round from the shared data.
