A strike; 3 end the round
  • Pick a cell and type its answer. Every cell you solve shows a new clue about other cells.
  • Cells are named like chess squares: the letter is the column, the number is the row.
  • Not sure yet? Add a name to a cell as a note. Notes are never checked and never cost a strike.
  • Keyboard: Alt and an arrow key moves between cells, Enter answers, Shift and Enter adds a note.
  • Pause whenever you like (Esc). The board hides while the clock is stopped.

Work out the answer in every cell from the clues. The grid appears when you start.

About this quiz

A mixed bag: countries, US states and chemical elements share one grid. Clues cross the three, from borders and populations to atomic numbers, and only one arrangement fits.

  • A cell may hold any country, any US state or any chemical element, and no answer appears twice.
  • Georgia is both a country and a state; either reading of the name is accepted where it fits.
  • Populations compare across kinds: a clue may say a state has more people than a country.
  • Ribbia counts 197 countries: the 193 members of the United Nations plus Vatican City, Palestine, Kosovo and Taiwan.
