About this quiz
Eleven Apollo missions carried crews between October 1968 and December 1972, six of them landing on the Moon. Each crew had a commander, a command module pilot and a lunar module pilot.
- Apollo 7, launched on October 11, 1968, was the first Apollo mission to reach space.
- Apollo 8's crew were the first people to fly around the Moon, in December 1968.
- Apollo 13 never landed: an oxygen tank exploded and the crew used the lunar module as a lifeboat.
- Apollo 1 never flew. Gus Grissom, Ed White and Roger Chaffee died in a fire during a launch pad test on January 27, 1967.

Note on the data. Crews, roles, launch dates and mission notes follow NASA's Apollo 50th anniversary missions page, checked on 3 October 2026. NASA gives formal names (James A. Lovell Jr., Edwin E. Aldrin Jr.); the names shown are the everyday ones NASA also uses in its mission text, and both forms are accepted.
